At nueva. we pride ourselves on our environmentally friendly conscious approach to the supply and sale of our sunglasses.
Cellulose Acetate
Each nueva. frame is made from cellulose acetate, a plant based synthetic fiber comprising of naturally renewable plant derived cellulose (wood pulp) and acetic acid (the main constituent in vinegar). Unlike plastic, which exists for millions of years, cellulose acetate breaks down after disposal, given the right conditions.
When the time comes and you need to dispose of your nueva. sunglasses, with the assistance of water, microbial activity and other environmental conditions, the cellulose acetate frame will break down into cellulose and acetic acid, returning to its original form with lower environmental impact when compared to plastic. When broken down by microbes into carbon dioxide and water, the elements can be beneficial to the environment and plant growth.
But don’t be mistaken! nueva. frames are durable and there is no way your frame will start the decomposition process throughout general wear. The breakdown of cellulose acetate requires specific environmental conditions to start the process of decomposition.
No-Plastic Packaging
In continuing our environmentally conscious mindset, we have chosen to use environmentally friendly and biodegradable packaging alternatives. All of our packaging is intended to reduce the impact on the environment and is completely biodegradable or recyclable. Our sunglasses come in a folded hard container made from kraft paper instead of plastic. The sunglasses will also arrive in a home-compostable cardboard box. Even the packing tape is biodegradable.
Community Initiatives
At nueva. we are big on returning to the environment and the communities around us. We are all visitors of this planet and giving back is a duty that each of us owe to our surrounds, whether it comes in the form of wealth, time or moral support.
From time to time, nueva. will engage with community initiatives that do good for the environment and the communities that make this wonderful world so vibrant and wonderful to explore and enjoy.

Along with our environmentally conscious measures aimed at supplying sunglasses with a positive impact, we have chosen to support Trillion Trees Western Australia to provide a tangible means for the nueva. generation to know that, when purchasing one of our frames, they are making a difference with each pair of sunglasses purchased.
With each sale, we will donate a portion of the proceeds to Trillion Trees Western Australia as we strive towards our continued goal to be consistently gentle to the environment.
